Obama in Boise

Saturday, February 02, 2008
Over 14,000 people packed into the Taco Bell Arena in Boise this morning to listen to Presidential candidate Barack Obama. And I mean packed. Almost every seat was full, and people were standing at the back of each level of the concourse - in some cases 4-5 people deep. I am glad I decided to attend this morning (thanks to Ryan, Mike, and Emily who saved me a spot in line!). I have been impressed with Obama since the beginning of his campaign. I appreciated the time he took to come visit us, even though our state is one of the smallest in the country in terms of number of delegates sent to the national convention. He spoke on important issues such as healthcare, education, the war in Iraq, and taxes. He even acknowledged those of us Latter-day Saints who are mourning the loss of our Prophet today. Obama this morning was professional, polished, had a sense of humor, and is attempting to bring people together with his message of hope. Even though, as a Republican, my views don't align exactly with Obama's, I believe he truly has the potential to bring about positive change in Washington if he is elected President.

I think that's cool that you went. I am so narrow-minded that I didn't even consider attending since I am a Republican. I'm sure you'll always remember it!

I thought about going, but somehow getting up early for a guy I was fairly sure I wouldn't vote for unless my favorite candidate (Romney) drops out just wasn't sufficient motivation. So instead I stayed in bed and tried to get over my cold.

Did he talk policies much or mostly just rhetoric about changing where our country is going?

I'm with you! I usually vote republican as well, but I really hope Obama wins the democratic vote. He is pretty impressive, and I think he could do some great things for this country. How cool to get to see him!

Hey Bryce - you found my blog :-) He talked a lot about changing where our country is going, but gave specifics like giving every college student $4000 per year toward tuition and giving each family $1000 per year toward paying bills and making sure that everyone has health coverage at least at the level he does as a congressman. Nice idea, but where's all that money going to come from??? :-)

Hi Kim-
You may or may not remember me, Amy Hall from the Hinckley Hall at BYU (Heidi's roomate). Long time!

I have to admit that I snoop on your blog from time to time. I am becoming addicted to blogging.

Isn't Obama an amazing speaker. He has such a presence. I saw him speak here in Arizona a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed!

Sounds like you are doing well! :)
