Gilmore Groupie

Saturday, October 24, 2009

I have officially been introduced to Gilmore Girls. Last month I watched my first-ever episode. I was quickly hooked, and over the last few weeks I watched the first three seasons! I love the quirky small-town characters, the relationship between Lorelai and Rory, the fabulous one-liners, etc. I have opted not to start season four for a couple days to give my couch a rest and to clean up my house enough to make it look like I'm not a pig (there's no time for housework when you're glued to the television!) I know, that sounds pathetic, but they really are that good :-)

Corn Maze

Monday, October 19, 2009
Tonight was our annual trip to the corn maze. The maze was designed to look like the front of a penny. It's amazing when you're in the middle of all the corn - it doesn't look like much... but when viewed from above it actually makes a pretty cool picture. There were probably 50 people total in our group, but of course we split up to actually go through the maze. Here I am with Jen and Jared... it was definitely an adventure!

Tanner's Blessing

Last Sunday was my sweet little nephew's baby blessing. The blessing was beautiful and it was fun to have so much family together to celebrate the event. Here I am with Tanner... he was too interested in what everyone else was doing to look at the camera!

Sage

Jen has two beautiful horses - High Sage Jubilee (Sage) and Oh Virginia City (Virginia). The afternoon that we dug our fire pit was so beautiful, that we decided to spend some more time outside and saddled up the horses for a ride. I rode Sage, the smaller of the two horses. It was so nice to just be outside enjoying nature and the fall weather. It felt like we were out in the country, when in reality we were only two miles from my house!

Bonfires

Saturday, October 17, 2009
There's just something about cooler weather that screams bonfire! A couple weeks ago, Jen and I decided that it would be fun to get a big group together for a bonfire and some hot chocolate. Jen's dad's shop was the perfect place, so we dug out a fire pit and surrounded it with rock. We were pretty proud of our end result. Here I am posing with Tucker :-)
We've put out firepit to good use - we built some pretty great fires the last two weekends. It's pretty handy that Jen's dad has a cabinet company, so we had an endless supply of scraps for firewood. We had over 30 people the first weekend! This picture is a little grainy, but you get the idea. It's definitely been fun.

Conference Crepes

Friday, October 09, 2009
Twice a year, the LDS church holds a general conference where church leaders can address all members of the church. I am lucky to live in a place where I can watch conference on tv! After I graduated from college, my friend Allison and I started a tradition... conference crepes! We made crepes with all the fixings and invited friends over to watch the Sunday morning session of conference. I have carried on with this tradition for almost every conference since then. Last Sunday several friends came over for a delicious breakfast. We had both sweet and savory crepe toppings:
scrambled eggs
bacon
cheese
hollandaise sauce
ham
carrots
broccoli
nutella
chocolate pudding
apple pie filling
strawberries
sweetened cream cheese
whipping cream
snickers
bananas

Glad I Don't Have Stairs in my House

Thursday, October 08, 2009
Exercise for me must be convenient. I know myself well enough to know that there's no way I will get out of bed early enough to work out before going to work. I also know that once I've come home from work that it's very unlikely I will actually leave to go exercise. Really the only way I fit exercising into my schedule is if I go on my lunch breaks or go directly on my way home from work. I have been a member of the Rec Center at Boise State for a few years now (and I will continue to keep this membership for my lunchtime workouts), but I need some more structure or motivation for my workouts... I tried personal training with someone I met through BYP earlier this year. I enjoyed it, but it was kind of far from my house, and the only times available weren't super convenient for me. Well, yesterday I had my first workout at my new gym - Fit Physique. It was a bootcamp class, and it kicked my butt! It was really focused on lower body. Needless to say, I am having a hard time walking today. I paid to park in the visitor lot at work this morning (which is right outside my building) so I wouldn't have to walk the 7 minutes from my lot to my office. After going to a couple meetings, I realized that stairs are a killer... going up is okay, but coming down sure is difficult. Needless to say, I'm glad I don't have stairs in my house. Hope I'm recuperated soon :-)

We Toughed Out the Rain

Saturday, October 03, 2009
... and the wind and the cold... and cheered the Broncos on to another win. It wasn't pretty, but it was a win nonetheless. Go BSU!

Guess It Froze Last Night

When I looked out the window this evening, this is what I saw:Bummer. Yesterday everything was fine (besides the fact that my garden was completely overgrown!). Not sure how come we went straight from summer to winter, but I wasn't ready for the first freeze of the year!
